ACF 5.9.1 Release

By Elliot Condon

Advanced Custom Fields version 5.9.1 is now available. This release contains a number of improvements for both the ACF and ACF PRO plugins, which we hope you enjoy.

👨‍💻 Please find the release notes below. And for the latest ACF news, follow us on Twitter @wp_acf.

Fixed validation bugs

One of the major improvements shipped in version 5.9 (PHP validation for the Gutenberg editor) was found to accidentally publish changes when previewing a post. The same bug was also responsible for preventing the Beaver Builder plugin from launching its custom editor – sorry. This bug is now fixed, and previewing content will now work as expected.

Reverted Local JSON enhancement

Another significant enhancement shipped in version 5.9 was a change to the Local JSON feature. This enhancement allowed ACF to update and delete JSON files included via the “load_json” setting even if they were outside of the “save_json” path setting. After listening to developer feedback, we have decided to revert this change, and will continue those discussions to develop a solution that better works for existing workflows.

Missing location rule choices

A bug was discovered in the Post Taxonomy location rule causing an incomplete list of rule choices. This bug has been fixed, and all taxonomy terms should now be available for selection.

Minor enhancements

  • Fixed guten-bug causing JS errors when editing with Elementor or Beaver Builder.
  • Fixed bug in Color Picker field causing JS error on front-end forms.
  • Fixed bug in Post Taxonomy location rule causing incomplete list of rule choices.
  • Added missing attribute escaping logic to Updates page – Thanks to Juan David Ordoñez Noriega.
  • Updated Indonesian translations thanks to Rio Bahtiar.
  • Updated Turkish translation thanks to Emre Erkan.

🙌 Thanks to everyone who helped make this release possible.
